Make It Easier to Move Around With a Weekender Bag
A move never goes exactly as planned, no matter how prepared you are. The movers arrive late, you run out of packing tape, or, like me, you drop and break your laptop because you didn’t notice that it was lying under a stack of clothes that you hurriedly toss into a box. You will inevitably forget something .
One way to reduce stress is to pack one bag as if you (and your family) are away for a long weekend. This way, you will have everything you need at your fingertips without having to go through the boxes.
What to bring: Toothbrush, pajamas, phone charger, laptop, medications, toiletries, change of clothes, sweater, socks, underwear, your child’s favorite toy, etc.
Another tip before heading into your new home: “Make sure you have enough toilet paper and hand soap for regular use for the first few weeks,” suggests Credit.com . “Your new home may not have a convenience store nearby, or you may be overwhelmed by settling on site to find the time to get what you need.”
A field marked “first day” is another option. It will contain everything you need on your first night / day in a new location, such as a coffee maker, detergents, cooking small meals, batteries, one or two bulbs, etc. Spruce suggests including the following items:
- Toilet paper
- Dishwashing liquid
- Dish towel and dish towel
- Universal cleaner
- Coffee maker and coffee
- Toaster or small oven with toaster
- Jar of pasta, sauce, and pasta (or other light food)
- Pet food and dishes
- A mug, plate, fork, knife, spoon for each family member.
- Utility cutting knife
- Scissors
- Small emergency kit
- Flashlight / candles / matches
- Shower curtain
- Shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush, floss and paste.
- Garbage bags
- Portable tool kit
- Important records such as medical records, passports, leases, financial information, etc.
“The essentials box should be the last box you pack before leaving your old home,” writes Spruce. Having all of these at your fingertips will make your ride smoother.
