What’s in Store for and Out of Netflix in the Week of November 12, 2018
There are two Netflix originals that I’m really excited about this week, and it’s a nice change of scenery. Two promising streaming options outside of the She-Ra (Friday) reboot!
The first is The Ballad of Buster Scruggs , a Western anthology by the Coen brothers with Tim Blake Nelson (as Buster Scruggs), James Franco (as Buster Scruggs), James Franco (phew), Liam Neeson (how does he find time?), Secret Daily (always true love)) and Tom Waits (seriously!). The film is divided into chapters, which means there is a lot of potential for unevenness in it, but from the trailer, it looks great shot and sometimes absurd, both are good.
I’m also cautiously excited about the Kominsky method , which may or may not be Grace and Frankie, but with old people. Alan Arkin and Michael Douglas star as friends laughing, crying and joking about their prostate. They also drive down the highway in a vintage Mercedes in Eddie Money’s Baby Hold On, at least in the trailer. It may not be enough to make you watch, but I was captured on Alan Arkin as a child after watching Mother-In-Law, and now I will observe him in almost everything. It never seems to get old! (He is 84, Michael Douglas is 74 – both of these facts are interesting to me.)
