How to Opt Out of Amazon’s Holiday Printable Catalog
Amazon wants to fill the R ‘Us toy-shaped hole in our hearts with an old-fashioned holiday print catalog , much like the Big Toy Book in a recently closed toy store. Amazon’s catalog, which The Verge says will be titled “Feast of the Game,” hopes to reimagine the Black Friday gift guide by adding QR codes next to each item so you can literally shop with your phone.
I disagree with this idea. On the one hand, I have fond memories of reading the Toys R ‘Us catalog as a child, dreaming of a big holiday catch. On the other hand, I already get a flood of holiday sales emails and endure wave after wave of social media posts from posts reviewing and sorting those deals. Why do I need a paper catalog clogging up my mailbox?
I am not here to tell you how to approach this important issue, but to enable you to make your own decision. As it happens, it’s easy to tell Amazon that you want to transfer the receipt of the catalog – and any other printed marketing material – through your Amazon account. To opt out of the directory, simply log in to Amazon, go to your account settings and click “ Settings link”. On this screen, select Don’t Email Me Marketing Information and click Update.
And it’s all. You are now guaranteed to receive slightly less Black Friday promo junk this holiday season.
