How to Find Out Which Facebook Advertisers Have Your Information
If you use Facebook (or don’t even use it), you probably know that advertisers have some information about you. Targeted ads are a particular strength of Facebook, and scrolling down the timeline is likely to prove that the ads you’re seeing aren’t random at all. What you may not be aware of; However, you can also see on Facebook which advertisers your name is listed.
You will find the list in the ad settings. To get there, log into Facebook on the Internet and then click the arrow in the upper right corner of your bag. From there select “Settings” from the dropdown menu. This will launch the settings menu.
On the left side of the page, you will see a column at the bottom of which will be “Advertising”. Click on it to open the “Advertising Settings” menu. Select “Advertisers you’ve interacted with” and then select “Who added their Facebook contacts” to see advertisers that are specifically targeting you.
From Facebook: “These advertisers serve ads using their uploaded contact list, which includes your contact information. This information was collected by the advertiser, usually after you shared your email address with him or another company they did business with. “
Most of my targeted ads are for car dealers and real estate agents. They are joking because I live in San Francisco and make a living as a writer. In the near future, I will not provide either a house or a car.
There is nothing you can do about these guys targeting you (although this is a good lesson when it comes to having junk email addresses that can be passed on to people who might try to send you this kind of spam. Understanding why you see what you are.
While you’re at the ad menu, it might be a good time to tweak your ad preferences as well. The ad settings menu allows you to customize them. I do not allow Facebook to show people that I liked a page in an advertisement, and I also do not allow it to show me ads based on my Facebook activity.
