How to Increase Text Size on Your Phone for Parents (or Yourself)

Increasing the font size on the phone is one of those old people’s well-known technical habits, like putting “…” in all texts or posting memes on Facebook about sauerkraut . But , according to the Intelligencer, it is also useful for young people – it reduces eye strain .

“You focus for so many hours that your eyes are relaxed when the font is larger, because the lens doesn’t have to focus so hard to read large print,” says ophthalmologist Saya Nagori Intelligencer. If you use your phone for a couple of hours a day, you need a lot of attention. Squinting at the text doesn’t permanently impair your vision, but your eyes will feel more tired by the end of each day.

If you don’t want to do this for yourself, at least help your parents, who may not even know how to enlarge their text. On iOS, open Settings, select Display & Brightness, then Text Size. On Android, it’s Settings> Display> Font Size.

Larger fonts are not cool. But that’s smart. Phone screens are getting bigger, so use the extra space and make the text bigger. You are not getting old. You are only growing.
