Automatically Open File When Adding an Event to Apple Calendar
I usually use Google Calendar, but since switching more and more to MacBook Airs, I’ve also started incorporating Apple Calendar into my daily routine. I love the layout and I love the new dark mode that was in macOS Mojave .
But via iDownloadBlog, Apple Calendar also offers another cool sleep mode feature that makes it especially useful for work events. When you create a new appointment, your computer can automatically open the file, ready for the appointment.
Let’s say I have an online meeting with Lifehacker managing editor Virginia Smith . I do an event, then drop down the whole list of menu items. Under Alert, you will see Custom at the bottom.
From there, you will see another popup. Expand the list and select “Open File”.
You will then be asked to navigate to the location of the file on your computer and select what you want to open, such as a PowerPoint presentation or a draft article document.
Specify how many minutes before the meeting you want to open the file. By default it is 15 minutes, but you can change it to whatever you want. Then save the lot and exit. That’s all.
Unfortunately this feature doesn’t seem to be available for Google Calendar, but if they’re smart they’ll be adding a version of it soon as it’s insanely useful. After all, who among us didn’t accidentally show up for a meeting and had to spend the first few minutes searching through our files to find the documents we needed?
