How to Get Additional Amazon Products Without Paying $ 25
From time to time I find that I need an additional Amazon item and only an additional item, which makes me struggle a bit to buy.
Amazon will not ship additional items to you on its own. Oh no. The add-on bit means that you must have an order worth at least $ 25 in the queue. If so, you can order an additional item by including it in your larger purchase. Otherwise, you will not sit down. And you can’t just order a $ 25 gift card – Amazon understands your tricks. (Some of them, anyway.)
I have a little trick I use to get around this limitation, but be warned that I am doing it sparingly . I’m not sure what can be done to piss Amazon off – if it even pisses Amazon off – but I don’t want to risk it, so I don’t unless I really need a particular item and have nothing in my purchases. $ 25 queue that I need to buy.
Next time you need an extra item, find what you can pre-order: a book, a video game coming out in a few months, a movie, etc. Buy your pre-order and an extra item in the same order and the last one should be shipped to you right away. (Amazon won’t make you wait for the first item to arrive in order to receive the second.)
Then, when you have an additional item, cancel the pre-order. It may not matter, but I usually give myself a month or so to cancel the pre-order – and give a false reason that I no longer need it / I found it cheaper elsewhere / something like that. I always feel like Amazon would know I was lying if I cancel my pre-order the same day I receive the extra item. This is probably just my opinion, but you can never be too sure.
