How to Track Hurricane Michael
Much of the southeastern United States is preparing for Hurricane Michael, which hits the coast tomorrow morning. The storm is steadily gaining strength as it approaches the Gulf Coast of Florida and is projected to reach Category 3 strength by then.
Residents of the Florida Panhandle, southern Georgia and Alabama, western Cuba, and South Carolina are likely to experience high winds, flash floods, storm surges , heavy rains, or all of the above. If you, or someone you love, is living the Michael path, here are some tracking resources to keep you updated:
- Hurricane Michael Page of the National Hurricane Center (NHC)
- Hurricane Michael Central at The Weather Channel
- @NWSNHC , @NHC_Atlantic and @NHC_Surge on Twitter for the latest updates from the National Weather Service
- This tracker is streamed live via NBC News
- Real-time satellite imagery from the National Satellite Data and Environmental Information Service (NESDIS)
As you study the various hurricane maps, keep in mind that error cones only track the predicted trajectory of the hurricane center . (For more on how to read cone maps, check out this NHC explanation .) Hazardous conditions can and do occur outside of the cone of errors, so stay tuned to local news for the most accurate evacuation forecasts and alerts.
