Breast cancer is common and can be devastating, but it has received much more media attention than many other cancers. Here are some reasons to show a little love while you got out your wallet to buy pink trinkets.

We’ve ranked them in ascending order of the number of deaths they cause each year, and have suggested several related research charities. If you can’t decide, there is always the American Cancer Society .
- Lung cancer: 154,050. Try the American Lung Cancer Foundation .
- Colorectal cancer: 50 630. Try Cancer Treatment Alliance straight and rectum .
- Pancreatic cancer: 44 330. Try the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network .
- Breast cancer: 40,920 women per year, 480 men. Instead of Komen, consider supporting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
- Cancer of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts: 30,200. Try the American Liver Foundation .
- Prostate cancer: 29,430 people. Try the Prostate Cancer Foundation .
- Leukemias: 24,370. Try the Leukemia Research Foundation .
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas: 19,910. Try the Lymphoma Research Foundation .
- Bladder cancer: 17,240. Try the Bladder Cancer Research Network .
