How to Measure Your Running Progress
The month is drawing to a close, but that doesn’t mean you need to stop running. Last month in our fitness challenge, I asked you to walk or run, and if you heeded even a little of my advice, you went out a few times and probably got stronger and faster even if you didn’t realize it yet.
If you’ve kept records or measured any metrics, take a look at them now. Can you run at a faster pace than before? Was your longest run this month especially long for you? Have you accumulated more miles? Or perhaps you have reached another milestone:
- If you were a beginner , would you be successful? Maybe you can go further or faster than before. You might have become a runner or jogged occasionally? (Fun fact: running and running are two words that mean the same thing. If you run a little, congratulations, you run.)
- If you have been inconvenient to run, when you started, whether you become more comfortable? Have you found ways to make running more fun? Have you found a new skill, new power, or a new favorite path?
- If you were already a runner , what did you learn about yourself this month? Did you get better on the hills, did you improve your time by a mile, did you decide to sign up for the race?
Whatever you do this month, if you participated at all, I would consider it a victory. Feel free to keep running while this lovely fall weather continues, and consider heading out on the trail if you haven’t already. We’ll be back next week with a new challenge for October, but you can easily work your schedule on days when you’re not running. Mute the comments and enjoy your next run or walk!
