How to Find Chapters and Adjust Skip Times in Apple’s Redesigned Podcast App
While most Apple fans who love podcasts have probably switched to an app like Overcast or Castro , you can go back and spend a few minutes with the updated Apple Podcasts app in iOS 12. There are a few new features that have finally made this app a viable alternative … uh … alternatives. Here’s what’s new:
Apple now supports MP3 podcast chapters in its official app. This means you can now jump to the topics you want to hear about on supported podcasts like Accidental Tech Podcast or Maccast . To find chapters for a podcast, simply go to the main playback screen and scroll down to just after the Description section. If there are chapters available, you will see the Chapters section and you can click Show to list them all. Click on a chapter to jump to that location in the podcast.
You can now also customize the skip buttons for the Podcasts app in iOS 12. Open the Settings app and select Podcasts. Scroll down to find the section labeled Skip Buttons, where you can set the time interval for going forward or backward in the podcast. You can choose from 10, 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds: try holding forward for about 30 seconds, which is useful for skipping ads, and think of a shorter time for the back button to make it easier to rewind a little if you accidentally miss a key moment in your show.
