How to Remove Your Phone Number From Facebook
This week, a TechCrunch article revealed that Facebook is using user-provided phone numbers as a security measure for two-factor authentication, as a way to send targeted ads to those users.
If that’s not what you want (and shouldn’t), you can work around the problem by removing your phone number from the site and setting up two-factor authentication using an authentication app.
To remove your phone number from Facebook, go to the Settings menu in your account (you get there by clicking the arrow in the upper-right corner of the page) and then Your Facebook Info and then View under the Access to your information. ” In this menu, you need to select “Personal information” and then “Your contact information”. When you see your phone number, click that delete button.
After that, select Security & Login on this main settings page, and then set up two-factor authentication. From there, you’ll be able to configure your two-factor settings, specifically so that you use an authentication app (like Google Authentication) rather than your phone number for that extra layer of security.
