How to Get Free Tickets for Museum Day

Almost 1,500 museums in the United States open their doors to visitors for free every year for one day. But tickets are still needed.

There are a limited number of tickets available, according to CNN , but each one provides a shared entrance for two people and can be downloaded from the Smithsonian Institution’s website until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22. This is real Museum Day, so you’ll probably want to download yours as soon as possible. There is one ticket per email, so it’s time to pick up your weird aliased emails if you want to take part in the four.

It doesn’t look like you can hop into a museum – the site warns that you must “choose wisely” when uploading a ticket to your email address. Again, a second email address seems like an easy way to get around this, or ask a friend to pick a museum and you pick a different one and spend the whole day doing it. In some places, you may need to bring a printout of your ticket rather than just showing it on your phone, so be prepared.

And while you’re exploring the many options, keep in mind that there are several zoos and science centers on the list. According to Travel & Leisure , this year’s Museum Day is dedicated to the theme “ Women Make History,” so some museums will be dedicated to exhibits dedicated to women “who are or have been pioneers in the arts, science, innovation and culture.” Sounds timely.
