How to Pack Necklaces so They Don’t Get Tangled
Necklaces are almost the only type of jewelry I wear – my hands are too swollen for the rings and my earlobes reject the earrings! – but the nifty, intricate chains make their travel packaging more than a little annoying. If you don’t want to spend your journey untangling necklaces, tossing them in a bag – even with separate compartments – simply won’t work.
Before the men say, “Why don’t you put one around your neck and wear it for the entire trip,” let me answer, “First, how dare you?” Necklaces can create, break, or enhance an outfit, and I don’t want to limit my personal expression. Fortunately, I don’t have to choose; I can pack as many as I want so they don’t get tangled, provided I have the Press’n’Seal packaging.
Yes, you can use regular plastic wrap , but I found it doesn’t stick to itself in the same way as Press’n’Seal, and it’s a little more slippery, which means the necklaces can slip out (disaster). Stronger, tackier and less sticky plastic wrap is damn important for transporting my jewelry around my neck. Even the thinnest chain can be packaged without the risk of entanglement. The process is very simple. First, tear off a long piece of Press’n’Seal and place the necklaces on top of it so that the bob hangs at the edge of the wrapper.
Then wrap the wrap around the chains and press it tightly against you, sealing the necklaces. Cut off the excess.
Roll everything up and put the necklace bag in the jewelry bag. If you’re feeling cocky, you can just throw it all into your suitcase, backpack, or purse. These chains aren’t going anywhere.
