Block Thousands of Twitter Advertisers at the Same Time

Furious at the stupidity that Twitter is doing right now? Or just want Twitter ads to be less distracting? Since the main Twitter ad unit is a real tweet, you can block many Twitter advertisements by blocking actual accounts. On Block Together, which creates shared blacklists, user Shannon Coulter has blacklisted 1,197 corporate accounts , many of which are advertised on Twitter, with a focus on Fortune 500 companies.

Go to the blacklist , click “Block all and subscribe” and follow the instructions on the site. From now on, you will be blocking anyone blocking Coulter, including any new blocks she adds. You can select specific accounts to unblock. If you unsubscribe from the blacklist, your blocks will remain in place and you will have to unlock them yourself. (Block Together allows you to select up to 500 accounts at a time for easy bulk unlocking.)

Only do this if you trust Coulter (a marketing consultant known for his Grab Your Wallet Boycott campaign against Trump ) that he won’t suddenly start blocking the accounts you want to have access to. It’s not a perfect solution as the only ideal solution for Twitter is to stop doing terrible things and also make your ads not suck in some way, which is quite subjective . But even if you don’t usually like using ad blockers, you can relax in the knowledge that you are just using Twitter’s official blocking feature. If they want to give you the ability to hide a lot of ads, then that is the prerogative of Twitter. Of course, you can start seeing a lot more ads from small advertisers that aren’t on this blacklist. You will have to block them yourself.
