Get a Service Dog That Hasn’t Had Time to Train

The Internet loves viral stories about dogs that have not been trained in government or police programs because that means the dog refused to become a total drug addict . This is actually not a rare problem; many dogs are unsuitable for service. They still need houses.

According to Insider, there are a number of adoption agencies that specialize in dogs that never went to school. Before you romanticize them too much as renegades, know that many dogs are trained for services that have nothing to do with drug discovery or CIA assistance. But yes, TSA provides puppyadoptionservices that “do not meet the TSA Training Center criteria for government employment.”

The TSA has an adoption statement, a set of household requirements, and warns that some of these dogs can be “very active and in most cases untrained and not broken.” The insider adds that you would only turn to this program if you are especially interested in German Shorthaired Pointers, Labradors, German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois, as only certain types of dogs receive this kind of training. This scenario may not work for every household, so use it with care.

Also note that this is not a cheap way to get a trained working dog. Some dogs have been trained, made a career, and now their watch is over. For example, Mission K9 Rescue is looking for homes for retired dogs and directly on its website states, “Their job is done.” Dramatic, but true. They are only good as comrades.

Freedom Service Dogs of America is trying to turn rescue dogs into service animals and only adopts those who cannot get trained. The same is true for Service Dogs Inc .; There are many reasons why dogs are not trained, including because they are “easily distracted” or have physical problems, or simply “too timid for the job.” All of these dogs are good for cuddling, so don’t ask them for anything but love. Looks like they are great dogs for me!
