Use These Mac Shortcuts Instead of the Esc Key
Here’s a dumb shortcut that will come in handy someday. In some applications ⌘-. does the same as the exit key. So if that key is broken, or your stupid touchpad hides your stupid virtual exit key, or your hands can’t reach the corner of your keyboard, or you just like ergonomics better, then go for it.
Thanks to Dark Mode Dave for the tip:
This doesn’t work in some apps (including Chrome), so you’ll have to do it through trial and error. As Karl Brown points out , Ctrl- [ is another option and it does work in Chrome. At least sometimes.
For a more reliable replacement, OS X Daily suggests manually mapping Caps Lock to Escape, which has the added benefit of disconnecting you every time you’re about to scream.
Using keyboard shortcuts is a key indicator that someone is “good at computers.” This is why all the hackers in the movies have never touched the mouse. If you’re really serious, you make your own shortcuts , but at least you need to remember a few basic standard combinations .
