Just Embrace the Absolute Dominance of Apple in Your Life.
When we last collected the weekly updates from Lifehacker staff, our editors cut Twitter and Taco Bells, basked in pictures of puppies, and found new ways to cut back on coffee.
This week, we’re discovering new podcasts, drowning out background noise on airplanes, pushing our way to MoviePass, and doing whatever Apple tells us to do.
What updates have you made this week? Let us know in the comments.
Bring earplugs with you when you travel
I’ve just done a long plane ride and an absolute must-have travel accessory are high quality earplugs. I have those that are close to my ears, and they block out almost all the noise of the plane, so I slept like a baby for the entire flight. Well, not like a child crying in the seat next to me.

Add a new podcast to your rotation
I enjoyed the Unspooled podcast with comedian Paul Scheer and film critic Amy Nicholson. I’ve been a fan of Scheer’s comedy for a long time, but this podcast is a more serious study of the 100 best AFI films of all time, and he and Nicholson are a great team: they watch films, add historical context and interview people who participated in the filming. do them. It’s just a nice podcast to listen to in the morning on the road or to work. I would recommend starting with a movie you are already familiar with, such as The Wizard of Oz and Titanic .

Help your cat be a little less picky
If it’s not too late: My update got a Feliway diffuser that emits pheromones that cats use to mark their safe place. My cat is now 78% smaller than a penis. Still a dick (because a cat), but better and nicer and doesn’t piss on my bed.

Just give up Apple Pay
At the risk of sounding petty, I surrendered to Apple Pay, which is pretty cool. Do not take a credit card to pay for groceries, do not sign, do not receive receipts. I haven’t fully realized yet that you don’t need to open the Wallet app to pay. It really looks like the future – payment via retinal scans is just around the corner.

And just agree to pay for iCloud storage
Lately, I was worried about losing photos and texts from my phone as it was “full” and hadn’t been backed up to iCloud for 39 weeks. I finally gave up yesterday, paying $ 0.99 a month for ten times the storage space and the peace of mind is worth it.

Find Joy in Others’ Failure in Baking
I started watching Nailed and learned a few things: I love shows where everyone can laugh at themselves, I appreciate shows that break the fourth wall (hello Wes), and you always – always – have to grease your skillet when you bake. cake. Also check it out with a toothpick, folks. Come on!

Use maximalism in your accessories
I bought a bigger purse. You can keep trying to minimize your belongings (unsuccessfully), or you can give up and feel great. I also love the smell of the new purse.

Use your MoviePass while you still can
I watched my third movie, MoviePass. I only have $ 44.95 in the hole!
