Stop Watching so Much on Twitter (Unless It’s Pictures of Puppies)

When we last collected the weekly updates from Lifehacker staff, our editors were buying a bunch of new headphones, improving our online security, figuring out ways to weather the summer heat, and working on our sleeping habits.

This week we are focusing more on social media use, waging an ongoing war on coffee addiction, getting smarter about our online shopping and, on one occasion, watching Beyoncé perform live.

What updates have you made this week? Let us know in the comments.

Give up mindless scrolling on Twitter

I deleted Twitter from my phone, and now I chat with friends in my spare minutes, I shorten my inbox, I even read my Instapaper. Whenever I need to share my flawless pearls of wisdom with the world, I simply use Twitter in my browser and then close it. I still use Twitter on my computer all day, but now I don’t use it as my automatic second assistant.

Expand your online shopping habit

If you like something overpriced – for example, dresses from Anthropologie or some other fashionable Achilles heel – you can buy them second-hand for a very small fraction of the price on Poshmark, a site where I am a little shy to say that I spent so many hours on this week. Indicate your size, the price you want to pay, and here’s your weekend and your salary. But for dog days, you’ve got new useless things. (You also have a few dresses that look laughably awful on you, but they were only $ 15? Will someone stop me.)

Spoil yourself with puppy photos and Beyoncé tickets.

This week my parents have a new puppy, and now I have only pictures of her in my film. Welcome to the family, Charlie! I’m going to Beyoncé’s concert with a friend tonight too, soI’ll let her improve me.

Use illness to kickstart healthy habits

All week I struggled with an annoying headache that made it difficult for me to do things like play games on my giant monitor, go to bars with friends, or have fun. It did, however, help immensely for my new health goal of “Delicious Taco Bell Limited”. Sorry nacho fries. Maybe another time.

Find a replacement for your coffee addiction

Considering that I can digest so much coffee in a day, I started giving matcha green tea. I bought a traditional Japanese set, bamboo whisk and all. I’m certainly not an expert, but learning the ritual of whipping tea has been a fun and soothing experience. The best advice I’ve learned is to zigzag back and forth. Whipping in a circle does not create the signature thick foam.

Just start looking at the pose

My update this week is watching TV. In particular, I finally started watching Pose and it is as good as everyone told me. Balm for the soul, as well as a killer soundtrack.

Automate your most routine purchases

I finally got Dollar Shave Club because I was tired of old razor burns. I can never remember to buy them, so it’s nice that they just show up.
