How to Become Incognito on Instagram
Instagram started rolling out a feature this week that shows your friends when you are currently using the app with a green indicator light.
It has already featured posts like “Active Today” in private messages since January, but that takes things a little further.
Luckily, if you prefer not to broadcast to the world that you are currently viewing images of what all your friends ate for lunch, you can turn the feature off quite easily.
To do this, go to your profile page in the Instagram app and select the gear icon to open the settings. From there, scroll down to the Privacy & Security section and then select the Activity Status menu.
From there, turn off the Show Activity Status button.
That’s all. The good news is that when you do this, you get rid of both the green dot and the indicator that lets subscribers know when you were last online. The bad news is that when you disable this feature, you won’t be able to see the status of others either. So, if you do not want to be persecuted, you cannot engage in persecution on your own.
