Why Melons Are the Best Frozen Fruit for Cooling Drinks
Adding frozen fruits to smoothies to keep them cool is a fairly common practice, but some fruits are simply cooler than others. For fruit cubes that will actually keep your drink cold for a significant amount of time, you need a melon.
It’s warm week and we’re on fire! The heat and humidity hit our heads, and all we can think about is getting into the pool and staying there until September. But since we got work to do, damn it, here’s the summer content you crave so much, from the finest icy cocktails to not toasting in the summer sun, we’ve got your (sweaty) back on your toes.
Why melons and not, say, berries? While any frozen fruit will initially help cool the drink, the high water content of melons means they freeze better and stay frozen longer than other fruits. Watermelon, cantaloupe, and even cucumber (which is technically a melon!) Do the job perfectly, and when you’re done drinking your drink, you’ve got an alcohol-filled snack. To better freeze the fruit cubes, place them on a baking sheet before placing them in the freezer to prevent them from sticking together.
