Tell Us Your Tips for Buenos Aires
¿What’s new, Buenos Aires? Everything I know about this city is taken from the film version of Evita . So in Hack Your City this week, imagine a New York City nerd hopping off a train and singing like a 90s Madonna, and fix him. I need your advice for visiting and living in the heart of Argentina.
Every Monday onHack Your City, we ask readers for the best tips about the city: driving tips, restaurant tips, entertainment, and any other tips for visitors and locals alike. Then, on Thursday, we present the best comments. We work in the USA and around the world.
As TV Tropes describes on its Buenos Aires Capital of Brazil page , Americans tend to dump the whole of South America in our heads so we can use some of the features. And we need answers to the usual Hack Your City questions:
What is underestimated? Which places deserve a few more discerning visitors? And what tricks can turn a normal ride into a great one? What advice would you give to those who think they have seen “all” of Buenos Aires? What do you like most about the city?
How should a visitor approach the city? What position should they take? What local traditions, behavior, and laws should they be aware of? What should they know about the city’s past and present? How friendly are the locals and how can visitors get along with them? (Is it true that the Spanish taught in American schools is completely different from what is spoken in Argentina?)
How does it feel in the long run? What do you love and hate about the city? What advice can you give to other residents? How do you drive to work, what is your daily lunch spot, or the best place to watch? What mistakes do new residents make – some Shibboleth street names or strange parking rules? Where do you go if you want to get out of town for a day or a week?
Finally, how would you describe the “atmosphere” of the city in words? How has this atmosphere changed over the past few years?
Leave your tips in the comments below and we’ll highlight the best ones. (Read some of the other comments first to make sure yours is unique.) Then come back Thursday for a new post with highlights.
