Apple Will Repair Your Broken MacBook Keyboard for Free

About 4 months ago on my MacBook the left Shift button accidentally stopped working. I use my computer for work and could not afford without it, so now I have developed some correct little fingers that I never knew were and learned how to use the Shift key on the right side of the keyboard. instead of.

When the problem started, I thought the problem was due to something I must have done with my computer. I haven’t spilled anything on him and have tried very hard not to eat or drink around him since the “2016 beer incident” made my last MacBook 100% sober with a whole IPA. But it is clear that I had to do something to get this key out of order.

It turns out that this is (shockingly) not my fault. On Friday, Apple acknowledged an issue with some MacBook and MacBook Pro models where characters repeat unexpectedly, do not appear, or keys “feel sticky or don’t respond consistently.” You may have heard about this issue from this class action lawsuit .

The best part: if you are having one of these problems with your MacBook and this is one of the models they confirmed the problem with, you can fix it for free. Suitable models include:

▪MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)

▪MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016)

▪MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017)

▪MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Dual Thunderbolt 3)

▪MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Dual Thunderbolt 3)

▪MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)

▪MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)

▪MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)

▪MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)

If you have one of these models and have keyboard issues, you can get your keyboard fixed at an Apple Retail Store, an Apple Authorized Service Provider for free, or mail your device to an Apple Repair Center.

Before your keyboard gets fixed, they’ll first confirm that the problem is due to a defect and not that you are spilling beer all over your computer.

If you do need to fix this, it will take a few days, so you should back up your computer data in advance (you should still do this) and be prepared to work without a computer for a few days.

If you are like me and have already created a workaround, you also have four years from the date of the original purchase to fix it, so you can pick a time that works for you.

If you’ve already paid for the repair, you can also contact Apple to get a refund.

Here’s a rundown of all the details .
