Refresh Your Clothes With Vodka
When we last collected our staff’s weekly updates , our editors were honing our MoviePass technique, taking bath cocktails as a lifestyle and putting the finishing touches on our home improvement projects.
This week we’re focused on planning a vacation, spending quality time with our pets, and experimenting with brilliant cleaning techniques.
What updates have you made this week? Let us know in the comments.
Take advantage of a mini vacation …
I worked a little late for the week and took a day off on Friday (an option that I was very lucky) and my wife and I spent the day on Governor’s Island, a public park between Brooklyn and Manhattan. It was a lot quieter than the weekend, but still lively enough to be enjoyable, and our Friday adventure made us feel great doing errands and side projects for the rest of the weekend.

… or plan a big event ahead of time
After years – literally years – convincing myself that I needed to save more money before booking a big vacation, I finally took the plunge and planned an international trip with a friend for the end of the year. Yes, it’s expensive, but the excitement I’ve already got from the simple idea of what we’ll do and where we’ll go was worth it. Just six months before we’re actually there!

Just get a cat already
My improvement is that I have adopted a cat. Her strange feline energy made my apartment livelier and more interesting.

Get a tool that works the way it should
Until recently, I had two ukuleles: one that plays well for a toy, and the other seems to be the best instrument, but could never stay in tune. So I updated the tuners with shiny new gearbox tuners and it turns out it’s still a crappy ukulele. So my real update this week is that I finally indulge in a decent ukulele, this blue mahogany Kala model. Sounds awesome, is easier to play, and I scold myself for not buying it months ago.

Buy new dog gear
Got a new dog leash. It is comfortable to hold in the hand, extends and is long enough to let the dog go about his business, and then catch up with us as we keep walking.

When in doubt, just go to Las Vegas
I ended a lovely trip to Las Vegas by winning the Absinthe Lap Dance Competition, which boosted my self confidence tremendously considering I was called on stage with about 500 people. I also watched my favorite band, ate my favorite food (beef Wellington), drank my favorite drink (ABC coffee), and overall had a great time. Gimmick? Take a great vacation. You deserve it.

Use vodka to freshen up your clothes
On the advice of local cleaning expert Jolie Kerr, I filled a spray bottle with … vodka. Vodka, according to Jolie, can freshen up clothes that aren’t quite ready for dry cleaning or the washing machine. And I’m here to tell you: it works really well. I splashed the underwire of a dry-cleaning-only dress, and now you don’t even know that I wore it on one of the hottest days. Bonus: when done, you can spray a little into your mouth. Try it with Febreze.
