Stop Putting This Exercise on Your Mind.

The hardest task on most to-do lists is invisible: getting motivated to do something. And the more important your tasks are, the more you can scare yourself even from the very beginning. One way to combat this, according to the producers of the YouTube channel How to ADHD , is with a simple meditation-like technique.

In a Reddit thread, Edward and Jessica McCabe share a variety of ways to deal with ADHD symptoms, including how easy it is to get distracted from tasks . These methods range from medications and lifestyle changes to simple mental tricks such as the one Edward uses to get motivated to start an assignment. This is how it works:

  1. Sit in a comfortable position.
  2. Imagine that you have started a task.
  3. Imagine every step.
  4. Repeat from start to finish.

As with meditation , the trick is to catch when your mind wanders and gently bring it back. “Usually when I take the part that I don’t like, my brain kind of dodges and tries to think about something else,” says Edward. “So I breathe in and start over again.”

Whether you have ADHD or not, this is a good way to break down tasks. And, as we have many times said , the division of tasks makes it less terrible and more doable. This fear usually prevents you from taking the first step.
