Live Every Day Like Father’s Day
Or Mother’s Day. Or your birthday.
Dad doesn’t like gifts. Every father’s day, I tell him that I got the same thing: the knowledge that I didn’t spend money on what he didn’t need. His answer: “This is what I always wanted!”
He argues that we don’t need an artificial holiday to show how much we love our family. The same goes for Mother’s Day or someone’s own birthday: you need to feel special and appreciated every day .
This rule also works great to avoid overcrowded brunches on the third Sunday in June. Why not invite your dad out for brunch whenever you feel like it? (Yes, all of this applies to mom.)
Also, have you seen store-bought Father’s Day cards? They assume that all of the father’s figures are fond of fishing, golf, or woodworking. This holiday was not meant for the person who raised me. He likes to fall asleep in his backyard reading road atlases, so I had to make my own postcard (thanks Papyrus). Imagine the pleasure of giving someone a handwritten card on a random day . Parents will love it . You will quickly become a beloved child, and your older sister will not have a single chance.
