See How Much More You’ll Spend on Gas This Year
Current gas prices across the country are the highest since 2014, which means you can recalculate your gas budget. This tool tells you how much you will spend on gas next year, depending on your car model and how many miles you think you will be driving. It can also tell you how much more you will spend compared to last year.
Time’s calculator uses numbers based on estimates from the Energy Information Administration . Their data shows that gas will cost an average of $ 2.79 a gallon during 2018, up 37 cents from the last year’s average of $ 2.42. These cents add up pretty quickly.
If you, say, drive a Dodge Ram pickup truck averaging 13,476 miles a year ( according to the US Department of Transportation ), you will pay $ 2,330 for gas this year. That’s $ 412 more than last year’s estimate. For a smaller car like the Toyota Corolla, you can expect to pay about $ 219 more. This is much less, but still a large part of the change.
Of course, everyone has different driving habits, so you can customize the calculator as you see fit. You can increase or decrease the annual mileage, change the average gas price, and even add your car model if it’s not already on the list. Keep in mind, all ratings assume your vehicle’s mileage is advertised. If your vehicle is in poor condition or if you drive more aggressively, these numbers may change.
