Read These Legendary Reddit Comment Threads

“Reddit, what is this legendary comment thread that everyone should read?” With this question, reddit editor myawesomeself gave the floor to the development of Canon’s great comment threads. Some happened on Reddit, some on blogs, some on the bodybuilding forum. Here are the top picks from this grand gathering.

Full body workout every other day?

This is an argument about how many days are in a week.

Hey, you know this is bullshit, that weeks are an odd number of days, and therefore doing something “every other day” means that you do it on a different day every week.

It is also very difficult to know when to get away from a controversy on the Internet or when you screwed up so badly that ten years later you will be in charge of the stupidest forum thread on the Internet.

It will take longer to read the thread than watching this 18-minute video of it, filmed by sportswriter and 17776 creator John Boyes :

Predictable threads are driving me crazy

If you’re not familiar with Reddit in general, skip this one. But if so – especially if you’re familiar with Reddit’s love of self-referential commenting – it’s a pleasure. See the entire GIF in the top post and also see the GIFs in the comments.

There is a trick that I won’t spoil, but which you will notice after reading a few comments. And then you will be amazed at this extraordinary creative achievement. It is the dark side of the commentary moon , a conceptual masterpiece in today’s environment.

This thread is not so atypical for r / HighQualityGifs , which is always full of gifs and threads about Reddit itself that ridicule Reddit’s flaws in a rather light and humble tone.

How did you take this picture?

Redditor Sand takes pictures of his wrist tattoos and adds, “Please don’t ask me how I got this picture.” Someone asks. Sayend shows them in a new photo. Repetition. Repetition. After all, Sayend is surrounded by cameras and mirrors and everyone is impressed.

The landlord has stopped and is acting nervous. Hulp!

In this thread of the North American Club of Subaru Impreza Owners (!) User Fubar’D reports that their new landlord turned up drunk and asked to sleep and take a shower in their house. Then things got more complicated.

Fubar’D publishes real-time updates on the incident and its aftermath, including calls to the realtor and homeowner. The thread has been working for three years , but now it can only be partially recovered using the Wayback Machine. In the Legendary Threads, Reddit editor Peeping_Kyle helpfully summarizes the author’s answers to questions and comments from different people. And redditor think_with_portals finds a tragic epilogue .

TIFU by reading my wife’s text messages. She’s cheating on me (aka Jenny, Cheating Wife)

There is a whole r / TIFU subreddit for stories about making a huge mistake. And the most famous is the story of Jenny’s wife’s infidelity. MyLifeSuxNow discovered that his eight-year-old wife was cheating on him and that his daughter-in-law might have known. He gave Reddit a lot of naughty details about his wife’s sexts and his own sexual activity. He then hired a divorce lawyer and a private investigator and set up a long trap to catch Jenny. And he kept updating Reddit for about a week.

It’s kind of like a project. The original author MyLifeSuxNow deleted his discussions and his account. There was a whole thread of drama and updates about this removal . The link above is a bunch of screenshots of the original posts created in the dedicated r / MyLifeSuxNow subreddit , which is full of drama. Apparently the guy was trying to license his life story and either he had problems with subreddit mods or other people had problems with mods? I really don’t have time to untangle this, and neither do you, but don’t let that stop you. Remember to take an hour or two to find out if this guy’s whole story is fictional.

TIFU throwing my steak out the window

Husband and wife go to dinner at the wife’s boss. The steak is undercooked. Man does this in the stupidest way. The man pays for his mistake.

This Seinfeldian story of no one getting hurt is funny in and of itself, but it is also followed by comments full of ways this guy could have saved his face. The guy continues to answer that yes, this would all be a smarter decision than what he chose! What a champion.

But the real joy is that years later , the wife published her own version of the story . And she tells it well. This is the Rashomon of our generation.

ShittyWatercolour Artistic War and AWildSketch

As the annoying Wiener pushes his sister into the pool, two favorite Reddit artists exchange illustrations in their signature styles. Each painting is a copy of the one that came before it, like the rap battle of nerd-artists. Some even “kept score” by counting votes .
