Infinity Dashboard Turns Your Mac Into a Repository of Useful Information
Mac: widgets? Old and ruined. Populating your Notification Center with apps and services? The more stuffed it is, the less useful it is. At the very least, I don’t like scrolling up and down through the elements if I need to take a quick look at my most meaningful data.
This is why I love the recently released Infinity Dashboard for Mac. But before I get down to the description, I’ll first clean up the bad news: it costs $ 15. That’s a lot, but the app comes with a seven-day trial, so at least you can see how much you know this is what you will be using before buying the full license.
The premise of Infinity Dashboard is simple: you should be able to quickly access a lot of quick information about your computer (and life) just by clicking a small button in the menu bar (as soon as you dock an app by clicking its menu bar. Icon after installation). You won’t get big massive maps, crazy graphics or anything else.
Instead, you just get text, including how many days are left until a certain event (four months and 18 days before Halloween if you were curious), what are the current exchange rates for your favorite currencies (or thecurrent bitcoin price ). how many people currently like your Facebook page and how much a particular item costs on Amazon – just to name a few.
While the default Infinity Dashboard layout isn’t all that useful, the app comes with a bunch of related modules (38 in total) that you can customize in your dashboard as you see fit, including everything from available disk space to the current weather. , to your current Fitbit stats, to your Reddit karma. Many of these modules are about services, and if you don’t care about, say, the current subscriber count on your YouTube page, that’s okay. Infinity Dashboard also allows you to install modules created by other users for the app, which it curates on its website.
(And yes, you can create your own if you have a decent understanding of JavaScript.)
Although there are few community-generated suggestions right now – just ten at the time of this writing – I fully expect the Infinity Dashboard to have many more interesting hacks as (or if) it becomes popular. In the meantime, it costs roughly $ 15, but I highly recommend trying the free trial to see if it suits your needs. If not, there are many other ways to place additional information on the menu bar.
