How Do You Feel About Drinking Frozen Treats?
Hello and welcome back toWhat’s Cooking? , an open thread where you can share your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on all food related matters. Today I would like to talk to you about the summer’s trick: frozen alcohol.
This time of year, I’m wildly hesitating between making and eating all the drunk popsicles and berating the whole genre as a cheap gimmick. (“Just eat a popsicle and have a cocktail like an adult,” I mumbled more than once.) But just like any other case, there is a right and wrong way to drink a frozen treat. I’m sure you all have a lot of opinions on this, and I have a lot of questions:
- First of all, do you have a favorite frozen way of drinking alcohol? I’m all about granite and I think they are grossly underestimated. They are very easy to make and are an adult version of a snow cone. Unlike popsicles and ice creams, they are very forgiving as you don’t have to worry too much about keeping things frozen.
- How do you feel about froze? I think a cheap rosé wine can be used if you add enough sugar, but freezing a really good rosé wine only mutes the flavor and makes me angry.
- What about mixed cocktails? I prefer margarita on stones and daiquiri, but I’ll be damned if the frozen mixed negroni turns out to be not very good and special. The intense cold softens the bitterness, and I often drink them so quickly that my brain freezes.
- Have you ever tried a really fantastic alcoholic popsicle or ice cream? The cherry beers I made a couple of years ago were delicious and easy to make, but I have yet to find an alcoholic ice cream that I like in terms of texture and taste.
- Have you ever tasted horrible frozen booze? I had really awful ice cream. Everything was sour without sweetness.
- Are drunk milkshakes overpriced? I tend to think they are, not because they taste bad, but because all that fat is slowing my arousal, and all this sugar is exacerbating my hangover. However, I love filming Branca Ment over coffee ice cream.
As always, feel free to reply to as many or fewer of the above as you like, and feel free to comment as you see fit on our topic. The only requirement is that your comment must be related to at least some kind of frozen drink.
