Finding a Job by Travel Time With LinkedIn
When you’re looking for a new job, you can usually narrow down your search by city and salary, but in a standard job search, you don’t factor in one rather important criterion: travel time. While there is definitely your dream job worth finding and relocating to (or dealing with that one-hour trip both ways), there are also loads of jobs you might regret right away if you realize just how cruel the trip is. business.
This week, LinkedIn introduced a new feature called Your Commute that allows you to display commute times right in search results. Better yet, you can enter your address into the tool and look for work depending on how long you are willing to drive to get to them.
Now when you search for a job using the website’s mobile app, there will be a “Road to Work” section at the bottom of the job results page. Here you can enter the time of day that you plan to head out for this potential new job, and LinkedIn will give you an estimate of how long it will take you to get there by car, on foot, or by car.
The idea here is that you don’t apply for something just to find when you go to your interview that commuting to work will make you unhappy. This way, at least from the very beginning, you will know what you are signing up for.
You can also set your travel preferences in your Career Interests personal account , which will display jobs based on your travel preferences.
