Take a Little Vacation to Tackle Your Personal to-Do List
Holidays, however long, are all about helping you relieve stress. And sometimes it means that you need to do something, not sit back and do nothing. If you have a bunch of personal things to do that weigh you down, using your day off to do something you never had time for can make a big difference to your well-being.
Need a haircut? Need to buy new furniture? Does your car need an oil change? Have it been weeks since you took your dog to the dog park? Does your garden need maintenance? Or do you just want to sit down and finish an art project that you are too tired to work on after long days of work? Elizabeth Grace Saunders of Harvard Business Review recommends taking a short break to focus on your personal productivity. In general, take a day off and use it exclusively for any non-work tasks that you don’t like. If you cannot afford to take a day off, you may be able to take a day off. Or use the holiday given to you, such as small holidays.
The key to this approach is that you do it slowly and without stress. It doesn’t have to be a day when you’re desperately running around town trying to do every last thing; you just give yourself time to do some of those things that start to distract you when you are at work or when you are trying to relax at home in the evening. Take your time, treat yourself to a good coffee, listen to your favorite music, and casually scroll through the to-do list. Oh, and be sure to stop and do whatever fun things get your attention while you’re on the go. After all, this is a vacation.
