How to Get Free ICloud Storage for a Month
While Apple is never going to offer more than 5GB of free storage, it looks like the company is throwing the slightest dice to users frustrated by 2012’s storage limits: a free month.
However, don’t worry too much; Apple’s proposal has several tricks. First, you’ll need to use up all of your storage on the free iCloud plan. The next time you try to back up your iPhone or iPad, Apple will prompt you to upgrade your cloud storage plan to a paid subscription. As 9to5 Mac notes , you will get the first month for free on any new plan you choose, but after that you will have to pay the regular subscription price.
Important caveat: The free trial promotion is only suitable for people who are not currently iCloud subscribers. Sorry to anyone looking to upgrade their iCloud plans with 50GB (or more).
As of this writing, the 50GB iCloud storage plan costs $ 1 / month, the 200GB plan costs $ 3 / month, and the 2TB plan costs $ 10 / month.
Admittedly, saving $ 1 on iCloud (or whatever) for a month isn’t the biggest win in the world. We’d rather Apple roll the dice to free users and, say, double their storage, or let users store unlimited photos beyond that 5GB limit. But that’s an often-repeated complaint about Apple; and something free is definitely better than nothing.
