Get Your Rum With a Palmetto Cocktail
Happy weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. We’re making a saw palmetto cocktail this week because I finally had to turn on the air conditioner and the hot weather calls for rum.
This cocktail is quite old and the equal parts rum and vermouth make it easy to remember. An ounce and a half of sweet vermouth may sound a little heavy, but trust me, it tastes like nothing but balanced. It’s also one of the more elegant ways to enjoy your favorite rum without the fruit if you want the spirit to shine even more without pineapple and lime. (Would be nice with Plantation Pineapple Rum though.) You’ll need a.
- 1 1/2 ounce dark rum (A good single cask is great, but a good blended rum will work too. I would, however, avoid anything flavored or anything that goes into a cannonball).
- 1 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
- 2 drops of orange bitter
Pour everything into a stirring glass or pint beaker filled with ice and stir until everything is completely chilled. Strain into a compartment glass, do not decorate with anything and enjoy.
