You Can Now Turn Off Annoying Instagram Friends
We all have one friend who cannot be borne on social media. If you’re tired of seeing your Instagram feed cluttered with annoying memes, malevolent status updates, or endless selfies, the solution seems obvious: Unfollow them.
But not everything is so simple. Instagram makes it easy to see who is following you and who is not, and if that friend finds out what you did, your savvy social media move could turn into a real argument. Fortunately, Instagram now offers a second option : mute annoying people so you can keep in touch on social media without looking at the content they’ve posted.
The next time you see something annoying in your feed, just click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the post. Assuming you have the latest Instagram update that might be hitting everyone in a few days, you should see a new menu with a Mute option. Click on it and you can decide whether to disable everything that the account publishes (including stories) or just their public images.
Don’t worry: you can still chat with these people via Instagram direct messaging even after you turn them off. And you can still check their posts by visiting their profile page – if you need photos to appear from time to time to keep up with the look. They won’t be able to see that you’ve muted on their accounts, except they’ll check you with a quick “You saw what I just posted on Instagram” conversation the next time you meet. Good luck with that.
