How to Join a Class Action Lawsuit Over Apple’s Crappy MacBook Keyboard

If you’ve bought a new MacBook or MacBook Pro in the past few years, you may have a case against Apple. A new class action lawsuit alleges the company knowingly sold laptops with faulty keyboards. Here’s what you need to know about a new lawsuit and how to get involved.

What is the problem?

Apple first introduced its new butterfly keyboards in 2015 with a 12-inch MacBook ( no regular USB ports ). The slimmer design of the keys allowed for a slimmer laptop profile without sacrificing responsiveness – at least according to Apple. A year later, the same keyboard appeared on the new 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pros.

With the Apple keyboard “upgrade,” it didn’t take long for the situation to subside. It turns out that Apple’s butterfly switch keys may become unresponsive if dust or debris gets under the keyboard. Worse, it can cost up to $ 700 to fix it with Apple if you’re out of warranty and it takes a week to fix it.

Apple has not formally responded to complaints about the keyboard – or a growing petition urging Apple to withdraw MacBooks with specified keyboards – although it has created a web page showing people how to spray a can of compressed air on a keyboard. Is that something, isn’t it?

Who is eligible to file a class action lawsuit?

If you bought a MacBook with butterfly keys, you are probably eligible to be involved in a lawsuit. This includes any 12-inch MacBook models from 2015 or newer. It also applies to MacBook Pros from 2016 (with or without Touch Bar). And you don’t have to have a damaged MacBook to participate. Girard Gibbs LLP (the firm behind the new lawsuit) does not indicate that you must be experiencing any keyboard issues to join the class action lawsuit.

How to join

Girard Gibbs has an online form that you can use to provide them with your contact details and details about your experience with Apple’s new MacBooks. If you prefer to talk on the phone, you can also call (866) 981-4800 for a free consultation.

Of course, you don’t really need to do anything to participate in this business. If you bought a laptop that meets the requirements, you will be included in a class action lawsuit as soon as everything goes wrong. Start thinking about what you can do with the sweet $ 20 you will earn if the lawsuit wins – as is usually the case with lawsuits like this.
