How to Enable the New Offline Gmail Mode
A few weeks ago, Google announced a number of Gmail updates and tweaks , including the ability to read and reply to messages while you’re offline. Some changes were made then live, but this offline mode was not quite ready – until last week. Last week during the annual Google I / O Developers Conference, Google officially made offline mode available to Gmail users.
Here’s how to do it:
Offline mode is only available to people using Chrome, so if it’s not your browser, you’ll need to download it for this to happen.
Get a new Gmail: In order for this to work, you need to upgrade to the “new” Gmail. To do this, click the Settings menu in the upper-right corner of Gmail and select Try New Mail from the drop-down menu.
Once you’ve turned on the new version of Gmail, click on that Settings icon again and then select Settings from the drop-down menu.
Scroll to the Offline menu item in the top toolbar (where you will see General, Shortcuts, Accounts and Import), and then select the Enable Offline Mail checkbox.
When you do, you will be prompted to choose how many days of messages you want to sync to your computer. If you receive a ton of emails, you probably want to be conservative with this choice.
Yes, it would be great to have access to your entire inbox while you’re offline, but your entire inbox is probably pretty large. For most people, a week is probably best.
Once you’ve made your choice, click on “Save Changes” and you should be fine.
For this to work offline, you need to have an instance of Gmail open in Chrome before going offline, so make sure you download it using airport Wi-Fi if you want to spend your next flight looking for zero. mailbox. …
