Get the Perfect Haircut Every Time With This App
For the past five years, a woman (read: angel) named Germaine has been cutting my hair. I made an appointment with her after my former hairdresser left and we talked for at least 30 minutes about how she was going to cut my hair before she picked up the scissors in 2013.
That was great. She was great. And every time I came to her, she confirmed that I wanted the same, and then she went to the city and always gave me the perfect haircut.
Now Germain is giving birth.
I am very happy for her. But, unfortunately for me, this little one did everything, so she had to go to bed when it was time for my “last haircut” before she went on maternity leave. I was so used to my light haircuts that when it came time to make an appointment with her replacement, I didn’t quite know what to say or what to do. What I left behind could best be described as a cool mullet. Not ideal.
Explain how to cut your hair if the answer is not “Cut it all!” Or “Use this razor everywhere” can be tricky, especially if you’re like me and don’t really know what you’re talking about. You can ask to just shorten what you have going on, but depending on how your hair grows, this may not be what you are looking for (in my case it definitely was not).
A new app called Freshcut is designed to (hopefully) make cutting someone new less painful. With the iPhone-only app, you take a few pictures of your new model right after it happens, and then jot down instructions on how to recreate it.
The idea is that when you end up getting your hair cut by a new hairdresser or stylist, he or she will have some sort of guide you want.
In theory, you could do this by simply storing images and directions somewhere, like Evernote or another note-taking app, on your phone, but having it in the dedicated app should make it easier to find when you sit down in the barber chair.
This of course does not guarantee that you will get the haircut you want, this part also depends a lot on the person who cuts your hair, but it can bring you a little closer to success.
