The company told investors that the price hike will take effect on May 11 for new Prime members, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter , and on June 16 for current members who update their accounts. Monthly (as opposed to annual) Prime membership currently costs $ 13 per month or $ 156 per year (this price was increased from $ 11 per month in January).
Amazon last raised prices for the service, which includes two-day shipping for qualified orders, music and TV streaming, and more, in 2014, when it raised its annual membership price from $ 79 per year to $ 99 today.
According to THR, Amazon CFO Brian told investors that “Prime’s customer value has never been this high … and the cost is just as high as we pointed out, especially with regard to shipping options and digital benefits, we are still seeing costs rise. … “
The company recently announced that it has over 100 million Prime members worldwide.
