How to Play the Crazy ‘Super Mario 64’ / ‘Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ Mashup

Case Emanoir is for it again. The same guy who created the insane Super Mario 64 Online game that Nintendo quickly hit with the copyright hammer last year is back with a brand new creation. This time, he took the world of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and filled it with Super Mario 64 characters. Before Nintendo’s lawyers grab their superstars and come running to stop him, here’s how you can play Emanoir’s mega-mashup for free.

Get a great Nintendo 64 emulator

Project64 is one of the best and easiest to use Nintendo 64 emulators you can get. More importantly, its most recent version doesn’t seem to contain associated adware or any other such nonsense – unlike previous versions of the emulator .

Head over to the Project64 official website and download the latest emulator for Windows or Android . (We’ll be using screenshots from the Windows version for this how-to tutorial.) Install it using all the defaults and the emulator will start at the very end. Here’s what you’ll see:

Downloading and Playing Super Mario 64: Ocarina of Time

Download the ROM file to Super Mario 64: Ocarina of Time, a link to which can be foundin the trailer Emanuara, if this direct download link will disappear. In Project64, click File, select Open ROM and navigate to where you saved the SM64 Ocarina of Time.z64 file.

When the game is loaded for the first time, you will not see anything.

This is because you will need to do one small tweak in order for the ROM to work. Click Options, then Options and select the Configure: SM64 OCARINA OF TIME option from the left menu. Find the Memory Size option on the right. Click the dropdown menu and change 4 MB to 8 MB, then click OK. TA-dah.

You can also click Options and then Configure Graphics Plugin to adjust the emulator’s resolution. You can also enable its anisotropic filtering and full-screen anti-aliasing to try and make the game a little better, but I didn’t notice any major differences.

You will definitely want to click on Configure Controller Plugin in the Options menu to see which keyboard keys correspond to the buttons on a typical Nintendo 64 controller. If you have any gamepad connected to your system, you will also use this screen to map these virtual buttons with your real controller.

From there, all you have to do is save the kingdom.
