How to Deliver Amazon Packages to Your Vehicle
Amazon wants to get into your car. Unlike the company’s previous home delivery service , this step really makes sense. If you’re uncomfortable with letting a stranger into your home, but you also don’t want your parcels stolen from your porch, then Amazon’s new In-Car delivery is a worthy compromise.
Problem? Amazon cannot just deliver the product to any vehicle. The company’s Trunk Delivery Service currently supports any 2015 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicles or newer as long as they have an active OnStar account. The service also works with newer Volvo vehicles (2015 or newer) that use the Volvo On Call feature. This reaches roughly 7 million people and Amazon says it will support even more vehicles in the future.
Amazon Key In-Car Delivery is also only supported in 37 out of 50 states, and you can check the Amazon website to see if you qualify for car delivery.
For Amazon to send packages to your car, you also need the Amazon Key app for iOS or Android . Once you’ve downloaded it, launch the app and use it to link your Amazon account to your OnStar or On Call account. Finally, register the delivery location, which is likely to be your home or your workplace.
The next time you shop on Amazon, you should see an in-car delivery option at checkout. If you choose it, you’ll want to use the app to make sure your vehicle is two blocks from your delivery location on the day your package is due to arrive. As Amazon points out, your vehicle also needs to be in a public place, which can make shipping difficult for some of them:
“Delivery in a car is possible only to a stationary car parked in an open, street and public area. Transport drivers do not have access to vehicles parked in restricted garages. In addition, vehicles parked in tiered or underground garages do not provide reliable enough GPS information for in-vehicle delivery. ”
When the Amazon delivery man arrives, your car will be unlocked, your package will go inside, and your car will be automatically locked. You will also receive notifications on your phone every step of the way so you can escape to your car and grab your new Instant Pot as soon as it arrives, and double-check to make sure no one escapes your ride.
