This Android App Will Lock Your Phone for 30 Minutes If You Use It Too Often
Android: Smartphones and apps are designed to be addictive , and many people (myself included) find it hard to resist Twitter notifications or new Instagram photos. There are many services out there to help you spend less time staring at your phone , but one free Android app takes a particularly brutal approach that can work for even the most hopeless of addicts.
Lock Me Out (seen by XDA-Developers ) offers several different features designed to restrict the use of your phone. When I opened the app, the first thing I saw was two rows of large red buttons offering to lock my phone for 15 minutes to 3 hours. After selecting the 15-minute lock, it booted to the lock screen. I could answer calls, read notifications and use the camera, but that’s about it. (The paid version of the app allows you to whitelist certain apps or block your phone entirely.)
Lock Me Out can be detailed too. You can lock your phone until a specific time of the day, set it to automatically lock for an hour or two later that day, or create a weekly lock schedule. Scroll down the main page of the app and you’ll even find an option that lets you lock your phone for 30 minutes if your screen time runs 5 hours a day or you unlock your device more than 12 times an hour.
These methods may seem a little radical, but if you really can’t resist checking your smartphone, Lock Me Out is an easy way to ensure short work breaks when you need them most.
