Now You Can Ask Alexa When the Plane Will Land
Taking people from the airport is a tricky job. If your friend’s flight is delayed, you may spend more time than you would like in the cell phone park at the airport, and if the flight arrives early, the person you are about to pick up may end up spending a little more times than they would like to sit. on the sidelines.
There are tons of different ways to track flights these days, but this week Kayak introduced another one that I’m personally very happy to use through Alexa.
Once you have enabled the skill through the Alexa app , you can ask Alexa to tell you when your friend’s flight is expected to land and set an alarm to tell you when the flight is 30 minutes (or whatever time you need to get to airport) from landing. Here’s a rundown (from Amazon) of the new questions you can ask:
- “Alexa, ask KAYAK to track the flight.” (This will make Alexa ask for more information about which flight you want to track.)
- “Alexa, ask KAYAK when the flight from Boston to Chicago leaves.”
- “Alexa, ask KAYAK when the Delta flight from Boston arrives at JFK.”
- “Alexa, ask KAYAK to track Delta 1109.”
Amazon also offers the same feature as its own app , but if you read the reviews, the results it gives will be … spotty. Since for someone who is regularly involved in things like washing dishes or having a serious conversation with my dog, reminding me of what happened sounds quite difficult, as does being able to just ask Alexa instead of pulling out your phone or laptop to see. as the flight progresses.
Yes, there are apps that do this, and yes, I could just set an alarm on my phone … but everything changes and having the same information, just a voice question, is very helpful.
In addition to flight status, the app can also search for flights, book hotel rooms, and tell you where you can travel from your home airport on a specific budget (like $ 400) – just in case you really need a vacation.
