Visit New Places Every Day in Your Browser With This Google Earth Extension
Not every Chrome or Firefox extension you use has to be 100 percent about performance or utility. Sometimes it’s just nice to look at something beautiful. And in the case of Earth View from Google Earth ( Chrome , Firefox ), I don’t care if it eats up my browser’s memory or in any way affects its performance. It makes me happy, and it makes you happy too – which is why this is our weekly extension.
You can probably guess what the extension does just by its name, but it’s much easier than you might think. It’s not some fancy Google Earth snapping that lets you scale the planet in a browser or fly through, say, the Grand Canyon whenever you do a related Google search. Instead, the extension fetches a new image of the selected location from Google Earth to fill the background of any new browser tabs you open. That’s all.
If you want to know a little more about the location you are looking at, you can click on the little globe icon in the lower right corner of the window to go directly to the image location in Google Earth. If you’re more like Indiana Jones than doing work on a specific day, you can also click the elusive arrow at the bottom of any new tab to open new Google Earth images to view (and new places to visit).
There are too many extensions that you can use to add background images and themes to your browser. Planet Earth from Google Earth is both awesome and educational at the same time, and it’s a great way to give you a little joy during your day. Joy and wanderlust.
