Save the Dishwashing Podcast
I love to wash dishes. This is one of my few responsibilities that does not require any mental effort. Maybe you don’t like washing dishes. You can try to immerse them in unscrupulous procrastination . Here’s an idea: Pick one of your favorite podcasts and only listen to it when you’re doing the dishes.
At the very least, you should fully listen to podcasts while you wash the dishes. Whether you’re listening through a bluetooth speaker or just on your phone, you can catch enough of a regular spoken podcast. If you’re listening with headphones (and here, wireless headphones help avoid confusion), you can fully enjoy one of those elaborate shows where every second counts. This podcast is like a mental pain reliever.
Keeping a podcast for cookware will make you a better person. This is a podcast as an incentive. You won’t be able to listen to the show until you wash the dishes. (Adjust as needed based on podcast frequency and food intake. You may be able to start the episode with just the dishes.) So choose a show you really want to listen to, rather than one that seems like a chore.
There is a risk here: even if the podcast starts to improve your opinion of food, the food can spoil your opinion of the podcast – a bit like using your favorite song as an alarm clock . If this starts to happen, try a slightly different podcast. This whole trick only works if you value the podcast more than not doing the dishes.
You can apply this to different assignments to varying degrees; vacuuming is a little more difficult; wiping down the bathroom is pretty easy. The more you move or bend over, the less you will need wired headphones or your phone in your shirt pocket. (I dropped my phone several times before accepting this.)
If you’re looking for a short podcast to accomplish this task, I recommend Song Exploder , Pop Culture Happy Hour from NPR, or Desert Oracle Radio .
