Motivate Yourself to Cook With a Cocktail
I hate doing dishes more than any other household chores, but due to my job and the lack of a dishwasher, I end up doing more than the average person. To overcome my complete disdain for wearing dish gloves and standing in front of the sink, I motivate myself with a cocktail.
Please note that I do not drink the cocktail before the dishes are ready. I just make one — either the drink that’s served or on a large rock — and then place it on the ledge near the sink so I can see it while I wash the dishes. Then I put on my gloves and start washing, quite quickly, because I want to sip my drink before it gets too hot. Can I drink my drink while wearing kitchen gloves? Yes, but I run the risk of spilling the water on myself or, worse yet, in my drink. I could have taken off my gloves as well, but putting on wet gloves again is a little annoying too. So instead, I survive, wash the dishes as fast as my weirdly small hands can, and then enjoy the cocktail as a reward.
Of course, you don’t have to use a cocktail as motivation, you can use a cookie, a piece of good cheese, or any treat of your choice. I do, however, find that the threat of dissolution from melting ice cube is a particularly powerful motivator, but you are you.
