How to Remove Pregnancy and Baby Ads From Your Facebook Feed
You may have bought a baby shower gift from the online registry. Or maybe you google “ovulation calculator”. Or maybe a group of your friends have babies and you liked one of their posts. Whatever the reason, your Facebook feed is flooded with maternity and baby product ads right now, and that’s the worst.
Facebook can become intolerable for those who are infertile or are experiencing a miscarriage. Mother’s Day posts, moms and dads tirades about just needing a break , over-the-top kids videos that document every cooing, smiling and hiccupping. Everything hurts. You can snooze or unsubscribe from friends – and I’m sure you did – but you can also get rid of all that parenting-related targeted advertising, which can sometimes seem even more startling. I mean not just hiding ads one by one, but removing all of them (or at least reducing their number) – for six months, one year, or forever. Here’s how to do it:
On the desktop:
1) Go to www.facebook.com/ads/preferences/.
2) In the “Hide Ad Topics” section, click on “Parenting”, select how long you want to hide ads, and enable this time.
On a mobile phone:
1) Go to your account settings.
2) Scroll down and select Advertising.
3) In the “Hide Ad Topics” section, select “Parental Controls”, choose how long you want to hide ads, and enable this time.
Facebook notes that you can still see ads relevant to the topic, but they “will use your input to improve the ads you see.” The total number of ads you see on Facebook won’t change, but hopefully you’ll see fewer posts promoting car seat monitors, sleep consultants, and biodegradable diapers.
