How to Clean Cosmetic Blenders in the Microwave

Of course, rubbing your face with an egg-shaped cosmetic blender is great, and it makes your makeup look smoother like no other. But, as everyone who deals with complex skin care knows, it is not easy to remove makeup from any surface, especially if it is firmly rubbed in the form of an oblong sponge.

First, let’s go back. Why do you need to clean a sponge at all? Because tomorrow you will probably be doing all your makeup routine again and you need fresh tools with minimal build-up of old makeup, dead skin cells and bacteria. The artist cleans the brush, the makeup artist washes the foundation applicator. There are many ways to do this, depending on how much time and effort you want to put in, but one easy cleanup hack will go viral once again on Twitter moments :

Place this egg in a cup of soapy water, microwave it for one minute and it will come out clean. It will also be filled with boiling water, so don’t stick your fingers in it. Pour it into a sink, rinse a little with cold water and squeeze.

This is actually what people have been doing for a while, and they have clear evidence that it works:

Dramatic results from a simple solution. Just make sure you put it in a cup of water and not, say, directly on a glass dish in the microwave:

Some have argued that these exact results are achieved in about the same amount of time by simply wiping down a bar of soap, although that sounds like a lot of work:

Beauty YouTube blogger Aaliyah Jay weighed in on the popular trend to simply say, “Whatever you do, clean this blender every time you use it.”

And let it dry! She also suggests that you throw out the blender and buy a new one at least once every three months. This seems reasonable if you want to apply the highlighter to your cheekbones instead of glittering mildew. Happy mixing.
