MacOS App of the Week: Status Clock
We’re sad that Apple has practically ditched the App Store on macOS. Just compare the experience of using your smartphone or tablet to your laptop – day and night. Although this is normal; we’re more than happy to provide recommendations for great macOS apps, even if Apple doesn’t want to do it.
Two hours is better than one hour
Our first recommended app in our macOS series is simple, but incredibly useful if you’re a traveler or someone who juggles different time zones all the time. Your office may be headquartered on the East Coast, but you are on the West Coast and your colleagues keep citing a time that is three hours ahead of you.
macOS doesn’t allow multiple hours to be specified in the menu bar by default – we know this is silly. Sure, you can place multiple clock widgets in your toolbar, but that’s hardly as effective as just looking at the top of your screen.
To do this, we’ll turn to the free Status Clock app. Install it and a clock will appear in the macOS menu bar, which you can reset to any hour. (And you can move it around the menu bar by holding down the Command key and dragging it.)
The only thing that annoys us a little is that the Status Clock cannot be identical to your macOS clock. The actual time will always be preceded by a large “GMT” with a numeric designation, which looks somewhat unconvincing. (And you need to remember if the time represents today, tomorrow, or something else, depending on which time zone you’re referencing.) However, Status Clock is a free and easy way to reset a second clock on macOS, and its simplicity is excellent.
