Cigarettes Must Be Illegal
Yesterday I received an email from the FDA that contained a flimsy statement: “Cigarettes are the only legitimate consumer product that, if used correctly, will kill half of all regular users.”
This is not news, but it is true.
If anyone ever invented cigarettes today, I hope we all laugh at their manufacturers on the internet and get them in trouble, I don’t know, FDA or something. The thing you’re burning that creates annoying smoke and will kill you if you keep using it? And is it addictive, designed to make you want to keep using it? There is no reason for cigarettes to be legal. You may not like the government telling you what to do, but nowadays the cigarette companies are telling you what to do.
Specifically, they tell you that it’s okay, even cool, to light some carcinogens and inhale smoke. As a bonus, you tinker with the lungs and brains of people approaching you. What the hell do you want to do this?
The FDA is very, very belatedly considering the situation (how long have we known that cigarettes are useless sticks of death?) And chose the indirect path. Last year, the FDA announced that it has the authority to regulate the level of nicotine in cigarettes, and they intend to set a limit that is below the level of addictiveness. If you have any opinion on this, great! They recently opened the list for public comment .
If that happens, you won’t even have an excuse to smoke because you are addicted. You literally fill your lungs with trash smoke for no reason . Good luck to the tobacco companies, who will probably still find a way to get a damn big market out of this.
